Research Opportunities

Topic of the Season

Finding a practice that can provide an easy to understand, documented, objective evaluation of your skin is one of the most difficult tasks in selecting a practice for your skin care needs.

Now, your vision of healthier, younger looking, more beautiful skin can be a reality with the help of VISIA.

VISIA® Complexion Analysis System

At Pinski Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery we perform complexion analysis for patients in Chicago with the VISIA Complexion Analysis System to provide them with easy to understand, printed reports that we use to develop your personal skin care regime.

What makes VISIA so good for my skin analysis?

The computer-controlled VISIA ensures our ability to reproduce your facial photography between time points with built-in positioning aids and standardized lighting. VISIA allows us to record both standard and UV photography and measure surface and subsurface skin conditions. When needed, VISIA even has a tool that lets us zoom in and magnify image areas for closer examination and review with each patient. Once done, the reports are customized for each patient in an easy to read format which includes recommendations for your skin care.

VISIA's origin as research tool

VISIA was originally developed as a research tool for skin care. Since then VISIA Complexion Analysis has been enhanced for use worldwide in health and skin care by Canfield Imaging Systems, the worldwide leader in imaging products for healthcare and wellness.

How does VISIA work?

The VISIA Complexion Analysis System scans your skin and captures key visual information, using multi-spectral imaging and analysis, of six areas that affect your skin's health and appearance. We use the VISIA to measure your skin pigmentation, pore size, porphyrins (evidence of bacteria), UV spots, photo damage (typically from sun damage), texture and wrinkles. With this quantitative assessment of your skin, we compare your skin's features to other individuals of the same sex, age and skin type and provide you with your relative skin condition within your peer group. We then prepare your personal skin care regime and rejuvenation program.

As your treatments progress, the VISIA is used to track the changes in your skin and the effectiveness of your skin care program.

How long does VISIA take?

Your VISIA analysis will take just a few minutes. After our doctor performs your VISIA Complexion Analysis, the review of your results and consultation will typically take from thirty minutes to an hour, focusing on your specific problem areas and comparing your results with others of your same age, sex and skin type. Your analysis will also include your personal treatment recommendations.

Are there any other considerations?

The actual VISIA imaging of your surface and subsurface skin features takes only a few minutes and is a comfortable process at all times.

VISIA Complexion Analysis Reports

Percentile scores for texture, wrinkles, spots and pores depict your ranking relative to others of the same age, gender and skin type (higher scores are better). The scores for UV spots and porphyrins represent the number of individual skin features detected (lower scores are better).

EXAMPLE 1:

Personalized notes for patient number 31689:
Recommend comprehensive skin care to restore and maintain skin health; microdermabrasion for improving texture; and use of broad-spectrum sun block to minimize future damage.

EXAMPLE 2:

Personalized notes for patient number 32159:
Recommend anti-bacterial cleanser for reduction of P. acne bacteria in pores; microdermabrasion for improving texture; and use of broad-spectrum sun block.

How often do I need a VISIA Complexion Analysis?

Your first analysis report will become your baseline from which we can measure your progress. Depending on your skin condition and your goals, we will perform additional analysis as needed throughout your treatment program.
