What is severe sweating?
Sweat is the body's temperature regulator. Severe sweating is a medical condition known as severe hyperhidrosis, which involves overactive sweat glands. In severe hyperhidrosis, sweating significantly exceeds the body's normal requirements for cooling.
How does BOTOX® treatment help severe sweating of the underarms, palms, and soles of feet?
BOTOX® treatment helps control this condition by temporarily blocking chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands don't receive chemical signals, the sever sweating stops.
If sweating is significantly interfering with a patient's daily activities and topical agents haven't worked, he or she may be a candidate for BOTOX® treatment.
Does it work?
BOTOX® treatment is very effective in controlling severe sweating. In a key clinical study, half of the patients had treatment duration of at least 201 days or 6.7 months. It is not a cure; your symptoms will gradually return, and you will know when the time is right for another treatment.
What is treatment with BOTOX® like?
The procedure is relatively straightforward. A small volume of BOTOX® solution is injected into the affected underarm, palm, or sole area through a very fine needle. Multiple injections are given based on the Dr. Pinski's assessment of the area that needs to be treated.
