Perioral dermatitis is a condition in which there is irritation or redness around the mouth area. Symptoms can include small, red, bumps and mild peeling of the skin. It may be itchy and resemble acne. This may also involve the area around the nose and rarely the eye area.

While doctors aren’t certain what causes the disease, they believe it is best described as a combination of adult acne and eczema. Certain ingredients in cosmetics are believed to sometimes initiate perioral dermatitis.
