A chemical peel is the controlled topical application of an acid solution that is applied topically to the skin that will exfoliate dead skin cells, improve tone, texture and encourage the rate of new cell turnover. Some of the various chemical peels we offer include Jessner’s solution, TCA (trichloroacetic acid), Glycolic, Salicylic, Lactic, Mandelic and VI Peel. Peels can help treat a variety of concerns and a series will be individually tailored to fit your needs which will drastically improve the appearance of the skin. Our Doctors, Physician Assistants and Aestheticians all perform chemical peels. Your physician or skin care specialist will carefully select the proper strength and type of chemical peel to suit your individual skin type and concern.
Chemical Peels can make the skin appear tighter and more luminous. It is a beneficial treatment for many different skin conditions such as sun damaged skin and age spots, fine lines and wrinkles as well as acne. The solution will remain on the skin for a carefully determined amount of time. The peel will then be neutralized to rebalance the pH of your skin. A barrier repair cream and sunblock are applied following every chemical peel treatment. After about 5-7 days fresh, radiant skin is revealed.
Generally, it can take 4-8 treatments spaced about 2-4 weeks apart for best results, but patients often see a noticeable improvement after the first treatment. More stubborn skin conditions like acne and melasma, may require a long-term maintenance regimen with alternating chemical peels with other therapies.
Your skin will be smoother, tighter, more even toned and brighter following a series of chemical peels. Chemical peels also help to refine pores and allows for makeup to sit smoothly on the new skin, making them a great option 1-2 weeks before an event.
There may be minimal downtime after a chemical peel. Some patients may experience some flushing directly after the peel, and then there may be flaking 1-4 days following the peel; however, some patients do not experience any downtime at all depending on what acid and strength is being used. A post peel cream and sunblock will be recommended to ensure proper hydration and protection of your new, healthy skin.
Chemical peels work wonderfully in combination with a variety of other procedures. For patients working on acne, salicylic peels alternated with Dermasweep with acne infusion along with topical or oral therapy can result in drastic improvements in reducing inflammation and improving skin texture. Once active acne is improved, chemical peels alternated with Clear and Brilliant can help with textural concerns, post inflammatory pigmentation, and superficial scarring. For patients with melasma, TCA chemical peels alternated with Dermasweep with Hyperpigmentation or Red Carpet Ready infusions or Permea laser resurfacing which targets melanin can drastically improve results. For those working on general signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, large pores and a dull complexion, chemical peels alternated with Dermasweep Stem Cell, laser resurfacing, and Botox and Fillers can promote a more youthful complexion.
