Restylane® Silk is the first filler formulated with lidocaine that is FDA approved specifically for rejuvenation of the lips and lines around the mouth. Like the well-established Restylane® filler, Restylane® Silk is a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler made from long chains of sugars that occur naturally in the skin.
Just like the other members of the Restylane® family, Restylane® Silk is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid- a sugar that is naturally present in your skin. Hyaluronic acid is responsible for smoothness and fullness in the face, helping to reduce lost volume. Like other areas of the face, the lips and skin surrounding the mouth show signs of aging as an individual gets older. This often results in lip thinning, lost shape and an increase in vertical lines above the lip. Restylane® Silk is specifically designed to provide natural-looking results in these areas. That’s why it’s made of smaller, smoother particles than those used in other Restylane® products.
Treatments can last up to 6 months, and possibly longer depending on how fast your body metabolizes the filler over time. The Doctor will discuss a personalized injectable plan for you and will make recommendations for your follow up accordingly.
Restylane® Silk treatment results can be seen immediately and volume is restored for a natural, subtle lip enhancement along with a decrease in vertical lip lines above the mouth. Dr. Pinski will create a customized Restylane® Silk treatment plan for your specific needs. Full results can be seen in 1-2 weeks once any residual swelling has subsided.
The procedure is very quick and easy. Prior to filler injections, a numbing cream is applied to the site. Some patients may experience mild swelling or bruising at the injection site that lasts anywhere from a few hours to a few days. Cold compresses can be applied post treatment to reduce any potential side-effects. Camouflage makeup may also be used and most patients can return immediately to work and resume normal activities. We recommend that patients avoid aspirin, vitamin E supplements and alcohol for 3 days prior to any injectable procedure to minimize the risk of bruising. The doctor will discuss your medical history at your office visit to rule out any contraindications to this product.
Filler helps with restoring volume to areas, but sometimes additional treatment like Botox® or Dysport® may be needed to help soften some excess muscle contractions which result in the formation of lines. Treatments to help the epidermis and general skin health are Dermasweep, chemical peels, laser resurfacing and a customized topical regimen. The combination of these therapies can be very satisfying to effectively treat signs of aging from various angles.
